Third round of FIA ERC and first gravel rally of the season, SEAJETS Acropolis Rally kicked off today with the running of short qualifying stage. Championship leader Kajetan Kajetanowicz topped the time sheets and will be first to choose the road position for tomorrows stages.
Qualifying stage was a short sprint of 3.7 kilometer near service park in Lamia. It was the first competitive gravel stage of the season. And Kajetanowicz with the time 2m19.938s was the quickest. Alexey Lukyanuk was just 0.095 sec behind Pole and was second fastest. Third fastest time was set by 21 year old Latvian driver, last year ERC Junior runner-up Ralfs Sirmacis. In his debut with the Skoda Fabia R5 car, he was just 1.732 seconds slower then top runners. Jaromir Tarabus was fourth in his Fabia R5 and Wojciech Chuchała in his ERC 2 Subaru Impreza STI was fifth. David Botka was lowly in 11th as he suffered lack of power from his DS3 R5.
Later in the day, drivers had to choose their road position for tomorrows stages. As expected Kajetanowicz choose to be last on the road, thats 15th car, to avoid road sweeping. Lukyanuk choose to be 10th car on the road. While Ralfs Sirmacis picked 11th place. Jaromir Tarabus and Wojciech Chuchała choose 14th and 12th respectively. David Botka who faced power issues in qualifying stage will open the road, although he had top five positions to choose from. So he will be doing the bulk of road sweeping.
