Trucks Only

Today at #Dakar, the day 2 began on the early hours, with a monstrous 518 km special stage after 26km of liaison, an additional 81 km of finishing transport to San Juan, #Argentina. openers. Truckers had a relatively smaller, 339 km specials to tackle, but an additional transport of 289 kilometers to end the day at San Juan.

The route passed through the stages that are used by WRC stages during Rally Argentina, although a whole lot longer and more than the regular sandy surface between rocky terrain that the world rally cars used to tame. The start of the longest stage of the rally was gravel packed harder surface, which gradually ended up on much looser sand dunes. Adding to the woes were the extremely hot temperatures, hovering around 40ºC.

With the Bikers starting the day as usual, overnight leader Sam Sunderland hit problems with his bike and lost over 3 hours, and his closest challenger Joan Barreda Bort was the fastest of the day's and rally's marathon stage. Paulo Goncalves was second, while Ruben Faria finished third quickest.

#TheFirstIndian, Santosh CS had a better day, finishing at a commendable 50th position [both day's as well as overall] from yesterday's 85th, making a comeback 35 steps in the second stage of the rally.

It was a disaster day for Poland's Adam Malysz, as his #SMG buggy after an uncontrollable fire reduced to buggy to its bare metal.

Fortunately, both the occupants were unhurt.

Cars + Trucks

Bikes + Quads

For Day 3, the action moves north-west towards Chilecito, and is less punishing for the bikes and quads, with longer 282+155 km road section and relatively shorter 220 km stage distance. Cars & Trucks has to tackle a bit longer 284 km special after a short 26 km liaison, and then finish the day with another 232 km road section towards Chilecito, Argentina. To know about it, you will have to wait until tomorrow!
