Sponsored by Coffee Day in association with Volkswagen and organized by Motor Sports Club of Chikmagalur (MSCC) and hosted by The Serai Resorts, Chikmagalur the seventh Indian National Rally Championship will be held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). The Rally will cover a total distance of 279.70 kms, with a special stage distance of 110.50 kms and a total liaison distance of 167.70 kms.

Mr. Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India, said, “Coffee Day Rally is one of the iconic rallies in the country and it’s a great pleasure to be associated with it this year. A very challenging rally for the cars and drivers, the event is an epitome of great planning and organization for the spectators and guests. No wonder it is a contender for hosting a round of the Asia Pacific rally Championship (APRC) for the upcoming season. Karamjit Singh, driving for Slideways Industries in Volkswagen Motorsport-developed Polo R2 has been producing excellent results and leading the IRC category. From the team perspective too, our customer team Slideways Industries is leading the championship and I would like to wish them as well as all other participants all the best for the last rally of the season.”

On a day when 19 of the 38 starters retired, former world champion Karamjit Singh, despite his Volkswagen Polo R2 running on three cylinders, topped the time charts while Arjun Rao came up with an equally impressive drive to take the INRC Overall lead in the Coffee Day Rally, the fifth and concluding round of the FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship, on Friday.

The tight, twisty and rough coffee estate roads where the three Special Stages were run twice, caught out many competitors. Asia Pacific champion Gaurav Gill (co-driver Musa Sherif) and Samir Thapar (GS Mann) of JCT Rallying, were among those to retire due to mechanical problems.
